Job Description:
The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time Sr. Marketing Manager in the Economic Development Department.

As a Sr. Marketing Manager, you will:

Organize and oversee implementation of the Leisure Tourism, Sales and Meeting Planners, E-Commerce, and Business Development, Retention and Expansion strategic plan, including planning and supervising program initiatives, developing annual operating and marketing plans, developing and monitoring budgets, and identifying appropriate industry benchmark performance measures.
Track performance measures and report quarterly / annually on program results with emphasis on economic impacts.
Manage the Tourism and Business Development Marketing vision and strategy.
Actively manage the Brand reputation (constant review of content; social listening, etc.)
Outline the social media strategy and development.
Manage website strategy of visitsugarlandtx.com and sugarlandecodev.com.
Develop the annual editorial calendar.
Provide creative direction and brand management by overseeing all content creation of videography and photography and collateral development to maintain brand integrity.
Responsible for curating and managing creative and strategic marketing campaigns.
Set strategic marketing KPI’s.
Oversee digital marketing efforts/SEO/SEM with the support of agencies.
Manage all marketing contract deliverables with agencies and creative subcontractors.
Manage the content development and distribution of the Tourism and Business Development E-Newsletter.
Oversee the planning, and execution of networking roundtables meetings, hospitality trainings, and social media workshops with the goal of creating an informed hospitality industry.
Translates all digital marketing metrics and use data to implement editorial calendar, forthcoming campaigns, and target reach.
Purchase ad buys
Establish and maintain effective communications with economic development partners, government leaders, business and cultural institution leaders, convention and event planners, and the local travel and tourism industry.
Act as convener and advocate for local hospitality industry stakeholders including hotels, tourism customers, restaurants, retailers, and suppliers.
Build optimal awareness of Sugar Land among travelers and the Sugar Land community. Provide leadership that unites the hospitality industry and the community.
Develop, maintain, and enforce effective organizational policies.
Demonstrate high standards of conduct and ethics as well as appropriate judgment, independence and discretion.
Coordinate with other City departments to accomplish Economic Development and Tourism goals. Maintain open lines of communication with supervisor, departmental staff, and staff of other city departments.
Influence appropriate product development.
Actively participate in industry associations to develop strategic alliances, build customer support, and further staff development. Further professional development by attending industry certification programs.
Assist in managing the City’s Visitor Center
Oversee the Visitor Center programming through collaboration with the Sales and Events Manager and partnerships with the Sugar Land Heritage Foundation, Sugar Land attractions and the City’s art program.
Prepare, allocate and oversee budget spending for the operations and management of the Visitor Center.
Assist in Marketing, Tourism and Business Development efforts by entertaining partners and businesses in the city suites at Constellation Field and Smart Financial Centre.
Required to work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster, whether natural or acts of war.
Stay abreast of, and comply with, all City and departmental policies and procedures.
Performs other duties or project assignments as required by the Director of Economic Development.

Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate must be extremely organized and able to manage the logistics of multiple duties with professionalism and strong communication skills. In addition, strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment is critical for success in the role, as are high levels of accuracy, timeliness and dependability. We are looking for someone who can establish and maintain effective working relationships within the organization, work effectively with all levels of employees and management, and assist in providing solutions to challenges that arise.

You are professional and empathetic. Diligent, take initiative and follow through and follow up with projects. Not easily flustered when tense situations arise but are diplomatic and work hard to diffuse conflict and get to resolution. Formal Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Hospitality, or Public Administration.
An advanced degree or 2 additional years of exempt-level relevant work experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted in lieu of specific education or experience requirements.

Relatable Work Experience:

Minimum five (5) years of responsible professional experience in the marketing, public assembly/hospitality industry (such as convention sales, planning, and/or organizing), hotel & travel industry, economic development, public administration or a related field.
Active participation with TTIA, TACVB, Texas Dept of Agriculture, Destination Marketing Association International, Texas Economic Development Counsel, or other related organization is preferred
Municipal experience preferred.
Training (License and/or Certification):

Texas Class C Driver’s license.
FCDME – Fellow, Certified Destination Management Executive (Destination Marketing Association International distinction) or other related hospitality / tourism professional certification preferred
